eLearning modules:

Pre-procedure

  • CTC Standards and Guidelines - This unit details how standards and guidelines influence our everyday practice, providing links to the latest relevant research and publications.
  • Normal and Post-surgical Colonic Anatomy - This unit explores normal colonic anatomy and how different surgeries can impact CTC quality, technique and risk.
  • Physiology - This unit takes a deep dive into each layer of the colon and how it is impacted by elements of CTC such as bowel preparation and insufflation.
  • Carcinogenesis - This unit defines different pathways of colorectal carcinogenesis, classification of polyps, and the important role of CTC in polyp detection.
  • Indications, Risks and Complications in CTC - This unit covers the indications, contraindications, risks, complications, and escalation policies surrounding normal and complex patients.
  • CTC Limitations - This unit covers when CTC may not be the best choice of test, how to avoid inappropriate referrals, and how polyp and patient factors can limit CTC quality.
  • Pre- and Post-CTC Patient Information - This unit details the significance of accurate and accessible patient information, providing examples, video demonstrations, and tips on best methods and common pitfalls.

Procedure

  • Communicating Benefit and Radiation Risk for CTC - This unit covers the laws and ethics surrounding radiation risk, with tips on how to effectively facilitate informed decisions with patients and carers.
  • Patient Safety and Consent - This unit covers legal and ethical aspects of different types of consent, providing case scenarios and and tips to help uphold patient rights during CTC.
  • Rectal Tube Insertion and Removal - This unit contains detailed video guidance covering the safe use of rectal tubes, as well as the different standards and guidelines that inform technique.
  • Drugs and Contrast Administration - This unit covers the actions and indications of the specific drugs and contrasts administered during CTC as well as specific regulations, policies, and side effects related to their use.
  • Patient Positioning - This unit describes and demonstrates the impact of patient positioning during CTC on optimising quality and diagnosing pathologies, including case studies and video guidance on best practice.
  • Gas Insufflation - This unit contains detailed video guidance on the use of gas insufflation equipment, covering topics of safety, optimisation of CTC quality and equipment regulations.

Post-procedure

  • On-table Review: Navigation - This unit contains interactive guidance and live video demonstrations on how to optimise navigation through the colon during on-table CTC review as well as expert tips and tricks.
  • On-table Review: Pathology - This unit provides detailed descriptions, demonstrations and interactive case scenarios to solidify knowledge of cancerous pathology appearance during CTC review, and when to seek same-day staging and guidance.
  • Same Day Staging - This unit provides a definition of same day CTC staging, how and when to complete same day staging, and reminders on how to recognise potential malignancy.
  • Software Review - This unit provides software terminology definitions and explores the impact of 3D CTC, covering research on advantages and disadvantages, and providing video demonstrations of different CTC software.
